Final day of doing testing for 6mm stuff. Today’s test was looking at more of the Guaro3d models to see how well they print in 1:285 vs their original scale of 1:64. For this I pulled out the Bushmaster (for testing wheeled vehicles), the German Puma IFV (which will be used alongside the Leopard 2s for Rettung) and then in the centre, the Turkish Atlay MBT which I’ve mentioned in the past for use in the Bazi Empire.
As you can see from the end result, there are maybe some tweaks I should do with things like gun barrels, over sizing them slightly for 6mm. I also think I printed these at slightly below the scale I did for the bergman vehicles as they look a little smaller. Some more experimentation might be needed.
Overall, this little foray into 6mm has been mostly successful and I intend to read up some rules (when I’m not working this weekend) and look at getting some figures on the board.
More time spent looking at 6mm printing (haven’t been in the mood for painting). Today’s goal was partially looking at the Guaro3d models I’ve purchased in the past and seeing if they can be used in 6mm. I need to work on the supports but for the most part, yes it seems.
Now obviously, these vehicles are tiny and packed full of details, so painting them might be quite interesting. I’ll take a look over the weekend. But if it works, it makes buying more models more worthwhile as they can be used for two different games.
Also at the same time… I kept printing the Rettung armoured divisions. I did some experiments with changing the exposure time to see which versions worked better. I’m still working on supporting wheeled vehicles in 6mm but the tracked ones are fun!
My original plan was to spend the evening painting. But thanks to a friend visiting, that plan fell through.
Earlier in the day however, one of my other 3d printing friends started talking to me about some rules he’d been working on, designed for smaller scale figures. Of course from that, he pointed out where I can get hold of some figures for it…
Yeah, I think I might be taking a look at 6mm Ultramodern. This is mostly as a way of extending out the ChargeReal – being able to do larger scale battles than 28mm can do and potentially tying them together. There is also something really cool about a full platoon of tanks resting in your hand.
I’m also interested to see how far I can go in a scale mostly using the 3d printer. There are plenty of examples of vehicles and terrain you can find online and I think I can easily make a few forces. First up, continuing on the story in the last game, we might be looking at a Bazi Empire vs Rettung clash – T62s vs Leopard 2s clashing in the desert.
